Kyle's Birthday: Doheny Style

For Kyle's birthday this year, the big 3-5, I should add, all the man wanted to do was camp! So you can imagine his surprise when on a whim, an entire week at Doheny State Beach became available. Welp, looks like we are going camping! Never mind that I had to work everyday that week, we were going camping! And what a beautiful, perfect week it was! The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we had the entire beach to ourselves! The first day the campground was full but for the remainder of our trip, there was only half a dozen other campers there in the entire campground.  And Andrew could not have been any happier about spending his days with his toes in the sand and beach bum days. It was pretty picture perfect and I think the birthday boy was pretty happy too!

A boy in paradise

Having a great time...

I mean, come on!! Does it get any better than that?

Little man had his own chair.

The sunsets were pretty spectacular every night!

On the go...8 month adventures

Well I have to be honest and tell you that I really don't know how this has happened. Our little man is already eight months old and is moving and a-groovin'! Between his army crawling, giggling and chitty chattiness, eating anything and everything (he seems to be a foodie like his mama!!), Austin is growing up so fast! Oh and did I mention he has 4 teeth (That's right, four teeth!). Andrew's top teeth broke in around 9 1/2 months so you can imagine my surprise to see those sharp daggers cutting through on his 8 month birthday. I was not expecting these little pearls so soon, just like I was not expecting Austin to get so big, so fast!

It was my hopes and intentions to snap a few pictures of Austin laying down but as you can see in the pictures below, it was not an easy task. The kid laid down for not even 3 seconds before he started rolling over to crawl to me. Thankfully, he seems to sit still a little longer when in the seated position.

This is how we started the photo session...

Already getting antsy...

Wait for it....

I can't handle all his cuteness!!

I love being this little boy's mommy!!

Life in the Wallace Household has been busy! I am back at work and loving the flexibility to be at home with the boys and still working full time. Andrew is LOVING preschool and can't wait for Tuesdays and Thursdays to play with his new friends and see Miss Mary! Kyle has been busy at work as well but now that fire season has slowed down, we love getting to see more of him. Andrew looks forward to his cherished wrestling time, something that I apparently am not as good at.

With Halloween approaching, we are excited for trick or treating. Andrew goes back and forth in being either a firefighter or Batman. But if I know my boy, he will go as a fireman and his little brother will be a member of his crew! Pictures will come soon!
Happy Fall Friends!!

1/2 Birthday and Preschool

To say that this last week was crazy would be an understatement! Between Austin’s 6 month birthday, Andrew’s 4th birthday, officially being back at school, AND Andrew finally getting his wish of going to school, it is safe to say that I have been busy VERY busy. Oh, and did I mention that this all happened in the same week?? And with California having it’s typical fire season, poor daddy Kyle was not able to be apart of any of it.

So where to start:
Little man turned six months old and celebrated his ½ birthday! With two teeth already, rolling around all over the floor, and measuring in the 97 percentile for height, our little boy is growing! He is a cooing, babbling, smiling, avocado loving, mini me!! He also loves bananas and is obsessed with his big brother and darn near breaks his neck to try and keep up with him. Austin loves to bounce and does not like sittting still. He is ready to be on the move….mommy, however, is not ready for this!

Andrew turned four a couple days later. That’s right, FOUR! I think this week alone with all it’s life milestones will give me grey hairs. Andrew is super into Batman, the BatDad, and Legos! Legos, Legos, Legos. They are my nightmare! But it keeps him busy and his innovation and creativity surprise me every day. He has turned into quite the picky eater though, which is a bummer since he used to be such a foodie. Andrew is completely fixated on the idea of going to school and has been counting down the days since the start of summer knowing that as soon as he turned four, it would be time to go to preschool.

Preschool was an absolute success and nothing short of what we had hoped for Andrew. I think it was exactly what he had been dreaming of too! My thoughts and expectations were completely different when thinking of what drop off was going to be like. Having taught Kinder for half a year, the first month is terrible. If you teach the littles you know what I am talking about in terms of separation anxiety. The kids, parents, grandparents, everyone is usually in tears. So in my mind, I was thinking that this was going to be Andrew and I. If not him, then definitely me! I was confident that I was going to cry my eyes out!

This is his, "stop taking pictures so we can go to Miss Mary's already!" smile. Either that or "I am so excited!!!"

Is this really happening?

We arrived at Miss Mary’s preschool and as the door opened, Andrew gave her the teacher’s gift we prepared, walked on in, and helped himself to the tubs of toys and learning stations. With Austin in hand, I leaned over to give Andrew a smooch and it was clear that I was in his space. I gave him a hug and told him to have a great day. “Yay, okay mom! Bye!” Did he really just say that to me? My stage 5 clinger, little boy just told me to leave. Ugh! Somehow, I managed to keep it together, chatted with Miss Mary to confirm pick up time and I was on my way. My baby boy was in his first day of preschool and he was doing great! I could NOT (still CAN NOT) believe that we were finally in this moment! When did he get so big?

His first day was great and all he could talk about on the way home was his new friends and Miss Mary’s house. I can’t believe my baby boy is in preschool! I can’t believe my other baby boy is 6 months old. I can’t believe how fast this life is going by. All you mommy friends weren’t kidding when you said cherish these moments because they go by so fast. I get it now! Totally, 100% get it now!

As the school year begins, it marks the end of summer! Have a great back to school family and friends and keep your eyes out for more Mommy Meltdowns from this Mommy in denial! :)

Five months...movin' and a-shakin'!

Our sweet little man turns five months old today! Each and every day has truly been such a joy and blessing! Austin is such a sweet little boy and such a good baby. I am in love!

What he likes:
*He likes to be pulled up to a standing position. He really enjoys this outlook on life.
*He loves to be held and all attention on him. He particularly likes being carried in the baby carrier facing out. Just like his brother used to!
*Swimming: He can float in a floatie or in my arms all day without a fuss.
*Bath time: He would sit in his tub for an hour if I would let him but his pruney little toes let me know he has had enough.
*Belly laughing: He is such a happy baby and loves to laugh at the most ridiculous sounds or when he has a mouth full of food.
*Talking and blowing raspberries: He will talk your ear off if you let him!
*His feet: He has discovered these attached toys and is obsessed.
*Mommy: I absolutely love that this little boy is a mommy's boy! He will allow others to hold him but his head whips around trying to find me.

What he dislikes:
*Teething. Those darn toofies are coming in, nothing visible yet but the hands are still in his mouth and we are drooly, drooly, drooly!
*He now tolerates tummy time since he rolls over almost instantly.

What's new:
*He has a hefty appetite! He loves his rice cereal and will eat the whole bowl...or two. Andrew absolutely LOVES to help and it's so sweet watching Andrew feed his baby brother.
*He is a big time mover and shaker. He can roll over from his tummy to back on both sides and can almost roll over to his tummy from his back.
*He loves being on his side. We officially now have a side sleeper!
*Being that he loves to be on his side and roll around, he is usually never in the same place for long. I wish I could video him and time lapse it. Maybe I should attach a Swiffer to his back so he could clean my floors while he is at it.
*Given that he is such a little mover and shaker, he can often be found on the opposite end of the crib, laying a full 180 degrees different than when I laid him down.
*My bald little buddy is finally getting hair on his head and it is blonde, blonde, blonde!!
*Austin seemed entertained by our recent summer storm. While the thunder and lightning didn't bother him, all the action kept his attention.

I mean, COME ON!!
(You can also see that these pictures are getting harder to take as he does not stay in one position for long...or on his blanket for that matter)

We have had a very busy summer! Andrew is a swimming machine and enjoying the play time with his buddies. It has been great spending time with family and friends. I also celebrated my 33rd birthday...still celebrating actually since it is my birth month. Kyle and Andrew made me a very special birthday cake and we spent the day celebrating with family. Call me an old lady but all I wanted for my birthday was a nap and boy, it was the best THREE hour nap...EVER!
Other than that, we are enjoying summer! This one seems to be going the fastest. We are thankful for our health and our family and friends! Happy summer friends!

Sweet Little Feet

I just love his cute, little feeties! It won't be long until they aren't little feeties anymore!
