The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

The day started out as usual: Andrew woke up, had breakfast, played with his toys, climbed the stairs a dozen times, terrorized the dog, etc: a very normal, typical day! And then, it was nap time!

Andrew went to sleep for his morning nap while I tried to get some work done. I was busy returning an email when I heard Andrew start to stir. "Normally," Andrew will keep himself entertained for about 20 minutes or so when he wakes up by cruising around his crib, talking to himself, playing with the images on his crib sheet, trying to untie the crib bumper ties. In a nutshell: he keeps himself BUSY!! "NORMALLY!"

Today, however, was a very different kind of busy! Andrew was talking and I could hear him moving about so I decided to check on him to see that all was okay. I peeked through the crack and words cannot even begin to describe the terror I am about to attempt to describe! IT WAS EVERYWHERE!! Like a bloody, horrific scene from a movie but instead of blood, there was poop everywhere! I barged in and screamed "OH NO!!" First mistake!! My outburst completely terrified Andrew! So now, amongst the poop being all over the wall, crib wooden panels, bumpers, crib sheet, carpet, and uh, all over my son (gross I know...sorry for the visual but you had been warned!), I now had a screaming little guy! I was mortified!

There was poop everywhere...where do I even begin??  My first plan of attack, take Andrew straight to the tub! I felt awful, my little guy was so upset after playing so contently and big, bad, mean ole' mommy ruined his party! I finally got Andrew clean, which took several scrubs because just when I thought I got it all, I would find more! And the smell, well, I think it was burned in my nostrils!

So Andrew was clean and happy again and now that that obstacle had been overcome, it was time to deep clean and attack the nursery! My first look at the nursery in my initial state of panic was not as bad as the closer look. I had to take everything apart, from the crib to removing it all from the nursery. Fortunately, almost everything went into the washing machine. But I had to take most of the furniture out to clean the carpeting. Andrew enjoyed "organizing his pajama drawer" while I cleaned away. He emptied it, put them away, emptied it, put them away! Whatever, it kept the kid busy so I was happy!

By noon, the room was sterilized and deep cleaned! The bedding was in the dryer and I was pooped...no pun intended! And to think, my work day had not even begun. Thankfully, the day was quiet and my students were busy preparing for a test so my email and phone were quiet! THANK YOU LORD!!

Of course, at the time, I was devastated. Surely, no one else had ever experienced this with their kiddos! Surely, I was the only one that had ever dealt with such a disgusting experience. I called all my mommy friends, just to vent, and I was surprised to hear that this is quite common. As sick as it is, I was relieved to hear that I was not alone! And of course, all my mommy friends ( and non mommy friends too) found great humor in my "Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!" Looking back, I see the humor in it too but man, I would not be sad if I don't EVER have to go through that again!

Thank you Andrew for making another first for your mommy! I just want to know what Daddy did to put you up to this! Kind of a coincidence, this all happens on the first day that Daddy goes back to work...just sayin'!

Gerber Contest

So after many had asked me to do, I caved to peer pressure and entered Andrew into the Gerber Photo Contest with the picture below.

What better picture shows off my sweet little man's character and personality...not to mention those baby blues? After 2 weeks of voting, we won't find out for a month who won the contest but fingers crossed at our chance of winning a $10,000 college scholarship.

On a related side note, Kyle, who doesn't generally say much, made the funniest comment today that prompted me to write about it and document for all times. After going to dinner last night and the waitress commenting on how much Andrew looks like him, Kyle proudly stated, "So, in all reality, if Andrew looks like me and he is in the Gerber contest, I must be like, a model!" NO JOKE!! I am still giggling at the hysterics of this statement! Lucky me, I married a model! Oh lucky, lucky me!!

I will keep you posted of the news!

Step by Step!!

Well wouldn't you know it that the first month I don't take monthly pictures of my little man, it turns out to be the most eventful and most anticipated moments of parenthood! That's right...the little man took his first series of steps. Don't get me wrong, Andrew has been a cruising, climbing, and crawling machine and walking from cabinet to cabinet but today, he took my breathe away when he reached his arms out to me and took 4 steps towards me! I was so excited and he seemed rather pleased with himself...as well he should be!
And go figure, Kyle wasn't there to see the "first" steps. But hey, he witnessed every other milestone for the first time and basked in the glory of seeing Andrew roll over, crawl, and stand alone for the first time while I was at work. It's about time mommy gets the first showing! I guess the old saying holds true, Andrew was saving the "best for last" for his mommy! We will just make him do it again when Kyle gets home so that he can see Andrew's "first" steps.
Happy 13 month birthday my little man! I am so proud of you!
