1/2 Birthday and Preschool

To say that this last week was crazy would be an understatement! Between Austin’s 6 month birthday, Andrew’s 4th birthday, officially being back at school, AND Andrew finally getting his wish of going to school, it is safe to say that I have been busy VERY busy. Oh, and did I mention that this all happened in the same week?? And with California having it’s typical fire season, poor daddy Kyle was not able to be apart of any of it.

So where to start:
Little man turned six months old and celebrated his ½ birthday! With two teeth already, rolling around all over the floor, and measuring in the 97 percentile for height, our little boy is growing! He is a cooing, babbling, smiling, avocado loving, mini me!! He also loves bananas and is obsessed with his big brother and darn near breaks his neck to try and keep up with him. Austin loves to bounce and does not like sittting still. He is ready to be on the move….mommy, however, is not ready for this!

Andrew turned four a couple days later. That’s right, FOUR! I think this week alone with all it’s life milestones will give me grey hairs. Andrew is super into Batman, the BatDad, and Legos! Legos, Legos, Legos. They are my nightmare! But it keeps him busy and his innovation and creativity surprise me every day. He has turned into quite the picky eater though, which is a bummer since he used to be such a foodie. Andrew is completely fixated on the idea of going to school and has been counting down the days since the start of summer knowing that as soon as he turned four, it would be time to go to preschool.

Preschool was an absolute success and nothing short of what we had hoped for Andrew. I think it was exactly what he had been dreaming of too! My thoughts and expectations were completely different when thinking of what drop off was going to be like. Having taught Kinder for half a year, the first month is terrible. If you teach the littles you know what I am talking about in terms of separation anxiety. The kids, parents, grandparents, everyone is usually in tears. So in my mind, I was thinking that this was going to be Andrew and I. If not him, then definitely me! I was confident that I was going to cry my eyes out!

This is his, "stop taking pictures so we can go to Miss Mary's already!" smile. Either that or "I am so excited!!!"

Is this really happening?

We arrived at Miss Mary’s preschool and as the door opened, Andrew gave her the teacher’s gift we prepared, walked on in, and helped himself to the tubs of toys and learning stations. With Austin in hand, I leaned over to give Andrew a smooch and it was clear that I was in his space. I gave him a hug and told him to have a great day. “Yay, okay mom! Bye!” Did he really just say that to me? My stage 5 clinger, little boy just told me to leave. Ugh! Somehow, I managed to keep it together, chatted with Miss Mary to confirm pick up time and I was on my way. My baby boy was in his first day of preschool and he was doing great! I could NOT (still CAN NOT) believe that we were finally in this moment! When did he get so big?

His first day was great and all he could talk about on the way home was his new friends and Miss Mary’s house. I can’t believe my baby boy is in preschool! I can’t believe my other baby boy is 6 months old. I can’t believe how fast this life is going by. All you mommy friends weren’t kidding when you said cherish these moments because they go by so fast. I get it now! Totally, 100% get it now!

As the school year begins, it marks the end of summer! Have a great back to school family and friends and keep your eyes out for more Mommy Meltdowns from this Mommy in denial! :)
