Andrew meets Bob the Builder

One of the perks of my job is that Andrew is allowed to attend our school field trips. This month, our students went to the Discovery Science Center. Knowing that there was so much STUFF to do here, I knew that Andrew would be super entertained. And indeed he was! The entire 2nd floor of this museum was all Bob the Builder. It has a play table with tractors, trucks and a mini town. There were wood workshops, grocery stores with computerized shopping carts that allowed students to scan items. And it was all child size! It was pretty cool, it had my attention so I think it is safe to say that it captured Andrew's too!

Even though there were several other exhibits, I couldn't break Andrew away from the play yard. He made many new friends and shared his tractors with others. Even though other children were coming and grabbing the vehicles in front of him, he would share what he had. Don't parents teach their kids to wait their turns anymore? It was so frustrating and annoying watching these parents stand in the corner, not even supervising their children. Fortuntately, it appears Andrew has inherited my sense of patience and wasn't bothered. We could have had several meltdowns on our hands if was like Kyle.

Andrew also enjoyed the rocket launch simulator and NASA Space center. This all is contructed inside the cube at the Discovery Science Center. He was captivated, especially during the launch sequence where there is a full blown countdown, steam, and lots of blinking lights to simulate being underneath a rocket taking off. He couldn't stop saying "ohhhh" and had very alert eyes. He loved it!

He loves his Auntie Jocelyn! Look at my little guy posing!

Sorry for the goofball expression on my face but the look on Andrew's face was priceless. This was the moment when we entered the cube and he saw all the rocket launchers.

Riley's Farm

As I have said before, one of the perks of my job is that Andrew can attend our class field trips. So when we announced to the students we would be going to Riley's Farm, many of my kiddos asked if Andrew would be coming, and it was without hesitation that I responded "of course!!"
The morning started as usual. We ate breakfast, tinkered around for a bit, and then got in the car to head out. As we travelled through Hemet, and no, I do NOT miss living here, I was in hysterics laughing when Andrew chanted again and again, "Pee-ewww, peee-ewww!" This is the sound I make to him when I am changing his diaper. I know it's not nice but Andrew is in the phase where diaper changes have turned into wrestling matches with an alligator death roll. So alas, I pull out all the stops and animation and this particular phrase because he thinks it is so funny! So, you can imagine my amusement when he was saying this while driving past all the super ripe diary farms!

We arrived to Riley's Farm to be greeted by soldiers in full costume and in full character, accents and all. Andrew was almost asleep when we arrived but once he heard the voices, he was wide awake. Great! No morning nap...this should make for a GREAT day!!

Once all my students were checked in, we were separated into groups. Andrew couldn't keep his eyes off of all the excitement! There were kids and activities EVERYWHERE! I tried to get him down for a nap, even a leisurely stroll along the creek.

Does this look like the face of a little boy who wants to go to sleep?

Finally, after some major snuggling with one of my moms, Andrew was OUT! Thank you Sarah for all of your help! Sorry that I reaped the rewards of the nap on my shoulder after all of your efforts!

Andrew woke up just in time for lunch (he is sooooo Kyle's kid!!) And by lunch, I mean a soldier's ration, which consisted of cornbread, beef jerky, an apple and a glass of lemonade. He loved the cornbread!

Our day ended with a re-enactment of the Revolutionary War and then our day was done. And a trip to Riley's Farm would not be complete without a fresh, homemade apple pie. Riley's is known for these pies. They are HUGE and delicious. Believe me when I say that Andrew enjoyed the pie for many nights after our fun at Riley's Farms. If you haven't been, you really must go! There are several different themed areas for you to take your family. We are hoping to go to the Civil War park in a few months. I also hope to take Andrew to Los Rios Ranchos where you can pick your own apples.
